TALLENTS Len

Len was a butcher in Gnowangerup, sharing a business with Charlie Stutley.
Len married and Eleanor 'Nell' Moores in 1912. Len was born c.1888 and Nell c.1890.  They had two sons, Frank and Robert John (Bob) who was born in 1916.
Frank served in WW2 and is listed on the Gnowangerup WW2 Honour Roll.
Bob married Win and they had two sons - Bruce who was killed accidentally aged 28 on 23/06/1968. Another son, Donald, married Pat Wellman - sadly he passed away in 1974 aged 32

H.P. Herbert:
"Very soon we had a butchers shop, Mr. Len Tallents and Mr. C. Stutley were the proprietors".
Newspaper Clippings:

"Sheep Poisoned with Rabbit Bait.
"Recently Mr. Len. Tallents, Kybelup, had his paddocks along the Pallinup River laid with phosphorous rabbit poison. Three weeks later, when he turned his sheep into one paddock, the bait was stil active and about 50 sheep were killed through eating it". Gnowangerup "Star" 9 May 1931.
"On Friday afternoon when returning from the pig sales at Katanning, Mr L Tallents was unlucky enough to capsise (sic) his truck when recovering from a skid on a sticky patch of road about one mile from Broomehill side of Martinup.Mr & Mrs Tallents escaped with a severe shaking and several pigs escaped altogether and have been posted missing and two casualties".Gnowangeup Star August 1941.

  

LEN & ELEANOR TALLENTS ON THE WEDDING DAY             #1
 

Len was a pallbearer for Charles Gundry Nicholas. Gnowangerup Star 26 June 1943.
"Duck Shooters : Mr.Len Tallents successfully applied to have the road cleared running east of Kyballup reserve. Because the road has been impassable for some years, traffic has been using Mr. Tallents' paddock".
"Mr Len Tallents lost about a mile of fence, a standing oat crop and considerable pasture when an unattended fire swept onto his property from the sandplain". Gnowangerup Star 19 March 1949.
"Mr & Mrs Len Tallents are holidaying with Mr and Mrs A. Walker of Nedlands."
Len passed away in 17 July 1966 aged 78, and Nell in 1983 aged 93.
